What are the qualifications of staff members?
Before all new staff can work in our programs, they must have the following minimum requirements:
- A Valid Class Four Driver's License
- A Current First Aid and CPR
- A Negative TB Test
- A Clear Criminal Record Search
All staff also receive training in behavior management, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Ethics of Touch, Food Safe and any other required training. Howe Sound Rehabilitation Services Society makes every effort to provide well-trained and caring staff to our participants.
What is the geographical area that the service covers?
The Residential Home Support Program is based out of four homes; two on the North Shore, one in Burnaby and one in Coquitlam. The Footprints' Unlimited Day Program is based out of two homes in North Vancouver and one home in Coquitlam. Most of our community access is based in the areas where the homes are situated. We try to spread our activities over the Lower Mainland as much as possible.
How will Footprints Unlimited and Residential Home Support Program be able to deliver services relevant to individual needs and desires?
Each participant has a referral form filled out upon entering our program. This contains input from the individual, social worker, key worker and family members – (whenever possible). This referral form discusses likes/dislikes, behavior management techniques, areas of interest, current programs and topics such as general disposition.
Both the Footprints' Unlimited and Residential Home Support Program are currently going through accreditation. Part of this process is developing Outcomes for our clients and the program as a whole. Each outcome is developed and monitored through charting by staff.
Is the location suitable to the needs of the individuals?
Each client has had a "Barriers to Service" form filled out. On this form we try to list any barriers that may hinder providing the best service possible. These possible barriers may be architectural, transportation barriers, health and safety risks or problems accessing social and recreational activities in the community. These forms will be looked at once a year to see if corrective plans have been addressed.
Are clients paid a wage for any work that they may do?
Footprints Unlimited follows the guidelines set up by the Employment Standards Act. To be considered a "vocational" program, the client is required to do the work every day and is paid a wage to do so. Most of the programs in Footprints are "therapeutic" in nature. Clients are not required to attend an activity if they do not wish to do so.
