Howe Sound Rehabilitation Services Society first opened its doors in 1988 in North Vancouver with the establishment of Windsong House, a residential home that had accommodations for three people with developmental disabilities. It was a difficult task for founding member Tonnar Brace to convince the surrounding community that three former institutional residents described as "difficult and challenging" were ready for community living. Tonnar had faith and was determined that the individuals of Windsong House could live in a neighbourhood setting, in a home of their own, if given special attention and shown that trust is possible. With a diligent and determined effort she achieved her mission. Tonnar and members of Howe Sound were successful because they strongly encouraged community integration, support and awareness.

Through close contact and the building of relationships within the community Howe Sound was effective in educating people, building trust and respect for the organization, its members and clients. Their hard work and dedication paid off and for 18years the residents of Windsong House have been respected citizens of the community.

Today Howe Sound provides a range of residential and day program services to over 150 adults, youth and children with acquired brain injuries, developmental, physical, and medical health care needs.

• Assisted Independent Living Program - provides individuals with family care and semi independent housing in the community
• Footprints Unlimited Day Program - provides day program services to individuals with developmental disabilities
• Community Leisure Program - provides day program services to individuals with an acquired brain injuries
• Supported Independent Living Program - provides one to one support services to individuals
• Assisted Living Apartments - provides apartment living in Burnaby and Surrey to young adults with physical disabilities
• Supported Housing - provides accessible accommodations in Vancouver to young adults with physical disabilities
• Children's Services - provides respite, one to one support, family care homes, and specialized housing options for children and youth
• Headway Centres - drop-in centres in New Westminster and Vancouver for people with acquired brain injuries
