Children & Youth Services

Howe Sound provides a range of services to children and youth including:

Family Care/Home Share
A child/youth lives with a family or caregiver in their home in the community.  They participate in family activities and are integrated into the community. All of our families and caregivers are qualified to provide quality care, support and supervision to the child/youth.

Specialized Housing Options
A home is developed for a child/youth with special, physical, mental, emotional or behavioural needs. This model would typically be a 24 hr staffed model or have a live in care provider with staff support during the day. Both models have skilled and qualified people that provide around the clock monitoring and supervision. Homes typically accommodate 1-3 children/youth.

Nursing Support Services
Children and youth that access this program have complex health care needs and live at home with their parents or caregivers. Nursing services provide parents and caregivers with onsite medical support, monitoring, supervision of care staff, training and support. The goal is to help children/youth with special health care needs lead active, healthy lives in their communities, while facilitating safe, consistent care and appropriate health supports.

One-to-One Support
This program provides children/youth and families with a specialized support worker who assists the child/youth to access community recreation and leisure activities as well as learn social, life skills and daily living skills. This program also provides emergency care relief (2-8 hrs per day) and household management to the family in times of crisis.

Respite Services
Respite services provide temporary relief to families of children and youth with special needs. Respite can be provided during weekends, holidays, or other time periods. Respite Care guarantees that a child/youth always has a safe, familiar place to stay where he/she has already established productive family relationships. Respite Care can also serve as a backup living arrangement in the event that a child needs to relocate.
